My first geode style art piece

This is the first resin geode piece I created. I didn’t have the right sort of supplies and can’t get access to a lot of things here on the island so I had to make do with what I could get from the local dollar store – or $5 store as it is here in Cayman.

This piece is created on an 8 x 10 inch canvas panel. I painted in the lines to start and then stuck down my bugle beads and seed beads to create the lines. I initially tried pouring two colors of resin next to each other and quickly learned how easy it is to totally lose control of resin. It did not want to behave.

So the I had to exercise patience and do each color one at a time, never having anything wet next to anything else wet. There were a few ups and downs along the way. I discovered that resin spreads out far more than you want it to, when you least want it to go there!

Here is a close up of the center section with the bugle beads and then a line of gold glitter around. I don’t think it looks too out of place.

Here you can see all of the layers and lines in closer detail. Once everything was completed and cured, I added some additional lines on top of the resin with gold and white paint pens to add some extra interest and definition.

I’m so happy with the results. I think as a mixed media piece it works really well, was mostly made up with things I already had in my stash or I could get locally, and didn’t cost too much to create it.

I don’t have any video or step by step photos of this piece I can share, but I plan to do more in the future and hope to share some of them with you along the way.

You can find this piece, and others for sale in my Etsy store HERE.
